Running doesn’t have to be about being fast, unless you want to be, and if its is then here probably isn’t the right place for you. You’ll need a coach with years of experience and I’m not that person.
I haven’t been running all my life, or since school, as is the norm for most runners. I began running at 39 after losing some weight. I went from 5k to 50k in a year (professionally I don’t/wouldn’t recommend this).
2016: First 5k (trail)
2016 First 50k [31 mile] ultra marathon
2017 First marathon (trail)
I then broke my ankle in 2017 but went on to complete another two (trail) marathons in 2018.
I never thought that I was a fast runner. Looking back I actually wasn’t that bad a runner. Now, I’m definitely not as fast or even fast-ish. I also can’t cover the distances that I once did. I now mostly run/walk.
After this I had a bad year, mentally and emotionally then in 2019 we had the pandemic. So I’m here now. And if you’re reading this, you’re probably here (or somewhere similar) now too.
Despite my not being a coach or other such professional I do sometimes know what I’m doing! I want to inspire other women of nearing 50 (& plus) to get outside and just have fun, no matter where they once were or where they now are!.

My experience of trail/fell running is self learned on the trails and moors which are around me.
